Inspiration for your Summer Dining - How to Plan a BBQ

It’s finally summertime, the best time of the year in our opinion. The sun is shining, the kids have finished up school for the year and hopefully you have a few dreamy weeks off work planned, so it can only mean one thing – it’s time for a summer BBQ.

Whether you’re having a small family gathering or a large summer BBQ party (whilst following Covid restrictions of course), we have everything you need to host your perfect BBQ this summer. Keep reading for ideas, including BBQ party decorations and table decorations. We even have a few recipe and drink ideas that your friends and family are sure to love.

Decorate the great outdoors

First things first, you want to set the scene. Thankfully, when it comes to BBQs, you may already have a lush green canvas to work with. So, for the most part, you can let your garden florals and foliage do the talking. However, even without a green garden, you can create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in your BBQ area with a few clever decorative flourishes.

Consider adding BBQ party decorations for an extra celebratory feel. Get creative and hang decorations from your washing line, gazebo or trees – your options are endless. Taking the time to add these small finishing touches won’t go unnoticed and will help to take your summer BBQ to the next level.

Practical yet atmospheric, decorative outdoor lights help to keep your BBQ party going as the sun goes down and create a warm and cosy atmosphere well into the night. Think wall lights, fairy lights, or even just good old fashioned tea lights.

Our personal favourite lighting option is layers of delicate fairy lights strung along garden fences, rails or trees with some colourful candles placed in the centre of the table. Candles placed in glass jars can also look really magical and help keep your candles safe from little hands!

Invest in BBQ table decorations

Investing in good quality BBQ table decorations can help transform your summer BBQ into the ultimate alfresco dining experience.

The table is often the central hub of the BBQ, mostly because this is where all the food and drinks are! However, with good quality table decorations and crockery, you can make your hub more than just the place for food, but a beautiful place too.

Drape your table in gorgeous table linen to create your base, at Bluebellgray we have a full collection of gorgeous floral tablecloths and napkins, inspired by nature and perfect for outdoor dining. Or if you want to go the extra mile, you could opt for one of our traditional gingham fabrics to holster your own handmade dining table for a summer picnic inspired look.

Create a centrepiece out of flowers or foliage from the garden to tie your table in with your surroundings. Pop them in a colourful vase or even a recycled or vintage jug!

Lastly, treat yourself to some new beautiful tableware. Browse our full collection of colourful plates, bowls and glasses, featuring delicate patterns, bold designs, intricate details and more. Pick a few select stand out pieces and mix and match them with your existing tableware to create an eclectic design scheme made in summer BBQ table décor heaven.

Plan the perfect menu

Now that you’ve set your table, it’s time to get started on your menu. After all, what summer BBQ would be complete without a feast of delicious food and drinks?

Burgers, sausages and skewers are classic BBQ fare for a reason, why not try mixing it up though! There are so many amazing recipe books now to suite every dietary requirement and cuisine you could wish.

This super easy sourdough focaccia recipe is a stalwart on our dinner table no matter what occasion. We love it topped with fresh herbs picked from the garden but it can be easily adapted to use whatever toppings you have to hand and is perfect for anyone looking for an alternative to shop bought burger buns.

And don’t forget about drinks! Make sure you have a jug of water on the table to keep your guests hydrated and stock up on juice for the kids and beer for the adults. You could even make some feel good summer cocktails (or mocktails) as a treat for you and your guests.

Create different zones to keep the party going!

The best BBQ’s are often whole day affairs - long relaxed meals that extend through the day and well in the evening. To really make the most of this, why not do a little prep with this in mind to keep you all comfy and content throughout.

The welcome drinks and cooking stages don’t require too much décor attention, and we’ve already discussed how to create a beautiful food zone with gorgeous summer BBQ table decorations. However, you need to make sure you have another place where you and your guests can relax and unwind in afterwards.

Provide your guests with some comfy seats to sink into after they’ve stuffed themselves with your delicious BBQ food. Our brand new collection of summer deckchairs are the perfect seating option to unwind in. Featuring classic Bluebellgray abstract and floral prints, they’ll match your other summer BBQ decorations effortlessly and are the perfect garden chair to sit back in and enjoy a cool beer or cocktail with friends and watch the sun go down.
